The History of MDS

MDS is a Limited Liability Corporation. It was formed in July 1999 by Dr. Michael D. Max and a small group of private investors. Its main focus has been the emerging world water crisis. Funded by DARPA from 2001 to 2005 MDS has since been under contract with the Office of Naval Research. MDS is in the process of commercializing its technology has established a subsidiary company, AquaVentus to bring this technology to market.

Water treatment research and development has been centered on industrializing gas hydrate industrial crystallization for seawater desalination. Spin-offs of this research concern, pipeline flow assurance, gas separation, decontamination of toxic gases, and dewatering industrial wastewater.


Water production research and development has been centered on the energy efficient condensation of water from air. This high quality water can be used directly for human consumption and for some industrial applications. MDS has been associated with the U.S. Army Water from Air Program, and all of our apparatus has been tested at the Army Aberdeen Proving Grounds.

MDS is a go-to company for rapid prototyping of new technologies and is available for contract work.
